A Voice in the Shed

In short: Horace meets the voice from Asylum, the sequel to Buried Alive, which opened at Escape This Northbridge in October 2023. Story fans can play Buried Alive first, then Asylum, though each room stands on its own.

Thursday. There is a speaker in my shed now. I did not ask for a speaker in my shed.

It started a couple of nights ago. Just a crackle at first. Then a voice, very bright, going up at the end of everything: hellooo, is that the groundskeeper? Lovely! Did anybody come up out of the ground last night? How many? How were they feeling?

I told it two, same as always, and that they looked shaken but cheerful. It said “oh, PERFECT” in a way I did not like. Then it said it would see them soon.

The staff tell me there is a new place along the way, a padded room with an intercom in it, and that the people who dig out of my plots sometimes end up there next. Not all of them. Only the ones who go looking for more. I have started to look at the footprints leaving my plots a bit differently.

Tally: plots disturbed, two. Voices in the shed, one. I have put a tea towel over the speaker. It still comes through, only muffled, like somebody cheerful at the bottom of a well.

FAQ

What this entry answers

What comes after Buried Alive — is Asylum the sequel?

Yes: Asylum. Buried Alive’s original site names Asylum as its sequel, another extreme horror room that pushes further into madness. Asylum plays at both Buried Alive venues, Escape This Northbridge and Escape This Sydney CBD, so the two can be booked back to back.

Is the groundskeeper the Undertaker in disguise?

No. Horace is a separate, made-up character who tidies up after the Undertaker and has never seen him at work. The Undertaker, Buried Alive’s villain, keeps his own comic diary at theundertaker.com.au, where Asylum’s intercom voice and Cannibal’s Butcher are his alter egos. The two diaries refer to each other but share no text.
