A Phone in the Soil

In short: Horace finds a phone that never made it into a locker. Phones, smartwatches and cameras stay out of Buried Alive, with free lockers provided; the room relies on long stretches of darkness and some flashing light.

Tuesday. Found a phone in the soil of plot two this morning. Turned out to belong to one of the staff, who dropped it while tidying. Mystery solved. Still, it got me thinking.

Players don’t take phones into the boxes. Or watches, or cameras. It all goes in the lockers out front, and the lockers cost nothing. I approve. A phone in a coffin would be a torch, and a torch would ruin the whole thing.

Because the dark is the point, as far as I can see from the shed. Proper dark, the kind you can’t get used to. Then the odd flash. I’ve been told that anybody bothered by flashing light, or prone to fits, or just plain afraid of the dark, is better off playing something else, and I’d say that’s fair. I don’t go in there myself without my head torch.

Gave the phone back. The young lady was very grateful and asked if I’d seen anything else down there. I said soil, mostly. She seemed relieved.

Tally: plots disturbed, two. Phones found, one. Phones that belonged to players, none, which is how it should be.

FAQ

What this entry answers

Can I take my phone into the coffin?

No. Phones, smartwatches, cameras and any recording device stay out of Buried Alive, and lockers are provided for valuables. A phone torch would spoil the darkness anyway.

How dark is it inside Buried Alive?

Dark enough to matter. Buried Alive uses controlled lighting with periods of complete darkness and some flashing light. Escape This tells anyone afraid of the dark, or with epilepsy or light sensitivity, not to play.
